I never set out to become a model. In fact, if you’d asked me even a few years earlier, I’d have laughed at the idea. It all started with a Facebook advert looking for mature models. On a whim — and very much out of my comfort zone — I sent a selfie I’d taken while getting ready for a Gatsby-themed night out. Nothing polished. Nothing planned. Just me, feeling good and thinking, “Why not?” That single moment changed everything. At 70, I found myself stepping into a completely new chapter. Suddenly I was back in front of the camera, learning something new, meeting inspiring people, and realising that opportunity doesn’t disappear with age — we just stop expecting it to show up. What surprised me most wasn’t the modelling itself, but how freeing it felt. I wasn’t trying to be younger or different. I was simply showing up as I was — silver hair, life experience, confidence earned the long way round. That selfie reminded me of something I now say often: you don’t need a grand plan to change your life. Sometimes you just need a small moment of bravery and a willingness to say yes. At 70, I did. And I’ve never looked back.
